The Angel-Paws Story
Angel-Paws is a Townsville-based charity that provides abandoned and rejected animals a second chance at life, whilst promoting solutions to reduce these numbers. We take in animals from across North Queensland and work with vets and foster carers to bring them to full health before finding them a new home. Following advice from our veterinary team, we ensure that every animal who leaves our care is vet-checked, parasite treated, microchipped, and desexed as appropriate.
Angel-Paws also works with other charitable organisations such as the Red Cross to assist those in the community who are experiencing crisis. Whether this is as a result of homelessness, hospital stays, domestic violence, or severe weather events, Angel-Paws helps to house much loved family pets until their owners are back on their feet again.
In October 2014, Angel-Paws was registered as an incorporated entity, and in March 2015 as a registered charity with Deductible Gift Recipient Status. Since that time, Angel-Paws has rehomed over 6,500 animals, and with the increased demand on Angel-Paws, there is now a core group of staff and passionate volunteers working together to run the organisation and help our four-legged friends find well-deserved forever homes.
The increasing demand also meant that a home base was required and, after leasing a former vet clinic for some time, Angel-Paws, with the community’s support, purchased a former boarding kennel facility at 156 Southwood Road, Stuart. Here, we can house rescued animals while we complete health checks and reviews, until moving them to a foster home. We operate our own internal vet clinic, whilst still working with our partner vet clinics for all other veterinary needs.
On site, we also operate The Cattery by Angel-Paws, our very own custom public boarding facility which acts as an income to assist us to continue to provide care to animals in need.
We will continue working within the community to raise awareness of animals in need and the importance of being a responsible pet owner. While we hope this will help reduce the number of abandoned and unwanted animals, we also aim to work with local and state governments to introduce legislation making desexing mandatory.
