Dipper & Mabel - Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

In November 2023 we welcomed beautiful Dipper and Mabel into the Angel-Paws family. The brother and sister duo came to us from a remote community where they had been left by their owners, wounded and abandoned.

We received a call from a concerned neighbour who noticed they had been left to fend for themselves and were looking very underweight. Thankfully she cared for them until we could get Dipper and Mabel into our care around a week later. From there the real work started.

Our vet team had to address the serious wounds both Dipper and Mabel had on their bodies, the pair both going into surgery the morning after they arrived. Their wounds were so badly infected they had to be cut open, cleaned out and stitched – some so large and deep they required a drain. Mabel was on a course of antibiotics, and the cost of their treatments continued to grow.

It was heartbreaking but our team was determined to help and ensure these wonderful dogs knew how loved and cared for they would be.

Both of these dogs had a lovely nature from the get-go, although they were a bit nervous with people due to their start to life. Dipper quickly became the more confident of the two, always greeting our volunteers at the door of his kennel and wanting to play. Dipper was adopted by his lovely new owner Sarah in March 2024.

Mabel was more timid and took her time choosing to trust people. She was incredibly sweet natured and loved a cuddle with familiar faces. Eventually Mabel met a woman named Trish and they instantly bonded – after 8 months in our care Mabel was adopted by Trish in August 2024.

Both Dipper and Mabel are living it up, sleeping on the couch, the bed, or wherever they desire! After their rough beginnings, these two have hit the jackpot and the team at Angel-Paws couldn’t be happier for them.

We’ve heard the two may be planning to reunite with a play date in the near future.

It’s stories like Dipper and Mabel’s that are the driving force behind why we do what we do at Angel-Paws Inc. - giving abandoned and unwanted animals a second chance at living the life they deserve.
